Sports Minister reveals what Ghana spent on hosting Africa

Ghana’s Minister of Sports Mustapha Ussif revealed the huge amount of money the government spent on the organising of the 2023 African Games, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Over 5,000 athletes will gather in Accra for the African Games and they will compete in 25 sports.

Addressing a press briefing in Accra on Monday, March 4, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif said, “The total contracts sum for the provision of facilities for the Games, approved by the Parliament of Ghana, amounted to $195,244,153.

He disclosed that the funding for the projects, relating to the provision of the facilities for the hosting and organisation of the Games has been good as all contractors have been paid.

Ussif said the facilities at Borteyman, especially the Aquatic Centre are also one of its kind in the whole of Africa.

He said this will make Ghana a Centre of sports development on the continent.
