Ibadan International Polo tournament kicks off today with top players from Nigeria and Argentina

The prestigious Nigerian Polo Association’s annual seven-day Ibadan International Polo tournament is set to commence today, drawing top polo players from Nigeria, Argentina, and other countries. This year’s event promises to be the most spectacular yet, with competitors gearing up to showcase their skills at the Ibadan Polo Club Ground in Oyo State.

Leading the charge for Nigeria are highly rated players Asharaf Yahaya, Kwame Isa, and Abdulrahman Mohammed, each with a +3 handicap. From Argentina, the renowned Diego White will also be competing. These top athletes will represent various teams drawn from cities including Jos, Kano, Kaduna, Lagos, and Port Harcourt.

The tournament will feature several prestigious cups: the Ibadan Cup, Rotimi Cup, Ade Alakija Memorial Cup, Shoreline Cup, Governor’s Cup, and Professor Jide Owoeye Cup.

With high-profile players and esteemed sponsors from around the world, this tournament is expected to be the largest in its history. Prominent sponsors include Shoreline Energy International, Blue Chip Technologies, IHS Towers of Strength, MTN, Graham Beck, Banwo & Ighodalo, Transco Africa, Macadams, Lead City Group, and the Oyo State Government.

Chief Kola Karim, Group Managing Director/CEO of Shoreline Energy International, will ceremoniously kick off the first game, marking the official start of the tournament.

Abimbola Adeyemi, Chairman of this year’s edition, has promised an event that will exceed all previous editions in every respect. “This year’s edition promises to be the best in all areas. Apart from the core event amongst the participants, we shall have daily entertainment, including live bands, DJs, karaoke, and many other sessions to spice up the tournament,” he said.
