Reigning FIBA Africa Champions, Nigeria will open camp in Antwerp, Belgium today in readiness for the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament billed for 8-11 February, 2024 in the coastal city of Antwerp.

The port city on Belgium’s River Scheldt will play host to Group A featuring Senegal, USA, host Belgium and Nigeria to determine who gets the tickets for the Olympic Games from the group.
Coach Rena Wakama in calling up a 15-man squad recalled Promise Amukamara from Dynano K. Russia who makes a return to the team since after the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Leading the pack is the MVP of the 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Amy Okonkwo alongside Serah Ogoke, ElizabethBalogun, Abiola Alimat Olatoyosi, Okoro Ifunnaya and Taiwo Oluwatomi Yemisi.
Also invited are Donanu Regina, Elizabeth Balogun, Okonkwo Amy Nnenna, Adeyeye Adebola, Enabosi Nicole Ehizele, Musa Murjanatu, Akarawe Nkem Uwa, Kunayi- Akpanah Pallas Daemi, Ebo Lauren and Ejiofor Blessing.
According to bsnsports.com, the General Manager of the Nigeria Basketball Federation national teams, Musa Adamu while reacting to the worries of fans of the team over the late invitation of players to training camp noted that the team would be ready to compete strongly for the Olympic ticket.
“We acknowledge that other teams have released their team’s rosters earlier, however, unlike football, FIBA only makes it mandatory for clubs to release players a week before the commencement of a tournament.
“The coach knows her team and has been in contact with the players. So, the girls would be ready for all oppositions when the game starts,” Adamu stated.
Back in 2020, Nigeria went to Serbia to book a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics. Nigeria put their name up in lights beating Mozambique in what was always likely to be an African winner-takes-all matchup against Mozambique – with Ezinne Kalu very impressive throughout.
