Super Eagles caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to beat any opponent following their 3-0 victory over Benin in the opening match of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

Eguavoen, who led the Super Eagles to a dominant performance in Uyo on Saturday, emphasized the team’s potential and quality after the resounding win.

“We have the quality to beat any team, we have the potential,” Eguavoen said. “When much is expected, that’s when we get the performance.”

Benin coach Gernot Rohr also acknowledged the strength of the Super Eagles, stating, “We have to be honest, the quality of Nigeria is higher than us.”

Despite the comfortable win, Eguavoen admitted he was impressed by the challenge posed by Benin’s Cheetahs, who surprised him with their game plan.

“Benin are a very good team; they surprised me with how well they played. I watched them against us in Abidjan, and they were not as good as what they showed in Uyo,” Eguavoen noted.

The victory sets a strong tone for Nigeria’s AFCON qualifying campaign.
