The Anioma Youth Forum Worldwide (AYF-W) has called on the the Federal Government to initiate moves to confer what it described as well deserved post humous national award on the former Executive Director of Projects on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Cairo Ojougboh.
Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives for Ika federal constituency, died in Abuja last week while watching the semi final match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the just concluded African Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.
Apart from the politician, some other Nigerians in different locations equally died suddenly as a result of the tension soaked football encounter.
In a statement made available to our correspondent on Wednesday, the AYF-W further urged the Federal Government to also recognized others who died for their massive love and passion for the Nigerian flag.
The statement which jointly signed by the national president, Nnamdi Ofonye and national publicity secretary, Elvis Ekwukwo, specifically noted that Ojougboh contributed immensely to national growth, peace and cohesion during his stint on earth.
“It is worthy of note to state that such awards will alleviate the pains in the minds of their loved ones and ensure that they didn’t die in vain.
“Also, such awards will signpost a new era where national patriotism is recognized and rewarded whether in life or death which is what the nation needs at a time like this when the level of patriotism by Nigerians is at the lowest ebb.
“Dr. Ojougbo’s untimely departure has left a noticeable void and AYF-W expresses condolences to his immediate family, Anioma nation, Deltans and Nigeria at large.
“As their family and friends continue to grieve over these deaths cum sacrifice for the nation’s pride, AYF-W hopes that the government will heed to this call and take necessary steps to ensure the lasting memory of these fallen patriots.
“The plea is not just for remembrance but also for the acknowledgment of their dedication, passion and love for Nigeria,” it stated.
