The Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to score in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Rwanda, with the game ending in a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes of play, including added time.
Despite holding 50.9% of the ball possession compared to Rwanda’s 49.9%, Nigeria was unable to break through Rwanda’s defense. The match was tightly contested, with both teams missing several opportunities to score.
Nigeria’s best chance came from Ademola Lookman, who saw his powerful shot saved by Rwanda’s goalkeeper, Ntwari Fiacre. Lookman found space several times in the first half, driving the ball forward and taking shots, but Fiacre made crucial saves to keep the score level.
Nigeria thought they had taken the lead when Victor Boniface found the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside infringement by another Nigerian player.
Rwanda’s Nshuti Innocent was a constant threat on the left side, giving Nigeria’s Ola Aina a tough time throughout the match. Muhire Kevin also put pressure on Aina, as Rwanda tried to force their way into Nigeria’s box. However, Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali made several key saves to deny them.
In the 74th minute, Ademola Lookman delivered a dangerous corner kick for Nigeria, but no player was able to convert the opportunity into a goal. Lookman continued to trouble the Rwandan defense, unleashing a powerful shot that nearly slipped through Fiacre’s hands, but the goalkeeper managed to keep it out.
Rwanda’s goalkeeper, Ntwari Fiacre, was the standout performer of the match, making numerous saves that denied Nigeria from gaining all three points.
Despite the draw, Nigeria remains at the top of their group in the qualifiers, but their position will depend on the outcome of other matches in the group.
