Nigeria will take on Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), organisers have confirmed following the conclusion of matchday three of the group stage on Wednesday night.

The knockout encounter will be played in Fez, as the Super Eagles continue their quest for continental glory at AFCON 2025 in Morocco.

Nigeria secured qualification after topping Group C with a perfect record of three wins from three matches, finishing ahead of Tunisia and Tanzania. Their next opponents, Mozambique, progressed to the knockout stage as the third-placed team from Group F.

The Round of 16 matches of the tournament will be staged between January 3 and January 6, 2026, across several Moroccan cities, including Fez, Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir and Marrakesh. The fixtures will determine the teams advancing to the quarter-finals scheduled for January 9 and 10.

A total of 16 teams qualified from the group stage. From Group A, Morocco and Mali advanced, while Egypt and South Africa progressed from Group B. Group C produced Nigeria, Tunisia and Tanzania, with Senegal, DR Congo and Benin qualifying from Group D. Algeria, Burkina Faso and Sudan emerged from Group E, while Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire and Mozambique progressed from Group F.

Nigeria’s Round of 16 clash against Mozambique is scheduled for Monday, January 5, in Fez, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT.

Other confirmed Round of 16 fixtures include Senegal versus the third-placed team from Group E in Tangier and Mali against Tunisia in Casablanca on January 3. Morocco will face Tanzania in Rabat, while South Africa take on the second-placed team from Group F on January 4. Egypt will meet Benin in Agadir on January 5, while Algeria face DR Congo in Rabat on January 6.

In the final Round of 16 fixture, the winners of Group F will play the second-placed team from Group E in Marrakesh on January 6.

According to tournament regulations, any knockout match level after 90 minutes will proceed to extra time and, if still tied, be decided by a penalty shootout.
