Nigeria finished top of Group C at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Uganda 3–1 in their final group match.

The Super Eagles got off to a bright start and took the lead early in the game when Paul Onuachu fired Nigeria ahead in the second minute, giving his side early control of the encounter.

Nigeria doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute through Raphael Onyedika, who capitalised on sustained pressure to find the back of the net. The midfielder struck again five minutes later, completing his brace in the 67th minute to put the Super Eagles firmly in command.

The match was keenly contested and full of action, with Uganda putting Nigeria’s defence under pressure, particularly in the first half. The Cranes, however, suffered a setback when their first-choice goalkeeper, Denis Onyango, was forced off through injury and replaced by second-choice goalkeeper Selim.

Drama followed shortly after, as Selim was sent off less than 10 minutes later for handling the ball outside the box to deny Victor Osimhen a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Uganda were forced to sacrifice an outfield player to bring on their third-choice goalkeeper, Alioonzi.

Despite being reduced to 10 men and enduring a turbulent spell, Uganda showed resilience and determination. Their efforts were rewarded in the 75th minute when Mato pulled one back, raising hopes of a late comeback.

However, Nigeria held on comfortably to secure the win and end the group stage with maximum points.

The result confirms Nigeria and Tunisia as the two teams to qualify from Group C. Tanzania finished third, while Uganda ended the group at the bottom with one point.
