British heavyweight boxer and former world champion Anthony Joshua was injured in a car crash in Nigeria on Monday that claimed the lives of two people, officials have confirmed.

The incident occurred around 12:00 local time on the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway when the vehicle conveying Joshua collided with a stationary commercial truck.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), five adult men were involved in the crash. Two occupants died at the scene, two others survived without injuries, while Joshua sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for medical attention.

Preliminary reports from local authorities indicated that the two fatalities were male foreign nationals.

Photos released by the FRSC showed the wreckage of a black Lexus SUV with broken glass scattered around the scene, as well as a police vehicle parked nearby. Images circulating also showed Joshua being assisted out of the back seat of the damaged vehicle.

The crash involved two vehicles: the black Lexus SUV and a stationary red commercial truck parked along the expressway.

FRSC officials said investigations were ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
