Liverpool have confirmed that forward Alexander Isak has undergone surgery after sustaining a fracture to his left leg, an injury expected to keep him out of action for several months.
In a statement on Sunday, the club disclosed that the 26-year-old Sweden international “successfully underwent surgery” on an ankle injury which included a fibula fracture. Liverpool, however, did not provide a definitive timeline for his return.
Isak was injured during Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Tottenham on Saturday. He had come off the bench to score for Arne Slot’s side but was hurt moments after getting his shot away, following a challenge from Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven. The striker was unable to continue and was helped off the pitch in visible discomfort by the club’s medical staff.
The injury represents another setback in what has been a challenging period for Isak since his high-profile move to Anfield. The forward joined Liverpool from Newcastle in September for a Premier League record fee of £125 million and has scored three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.

Isak’s fitness struggles predate his transfer. He was left out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia due to what the club described as a minor thigh injury, amid reports that he was seeking a move away. He later trained alone at former club Real Sociedad before completing his switch to Liverpool on deadline day.
He made his debut for the Reds in a UEFA Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid on September 17 and opened his Liverpool account in a 2–1 win against Southampton. However, persistent fitness issues have limited his impact, with his first league goal coming against West Ham on November 30, followed by his strike against Tottenham.
Liverpool will now have to cope without the striker for an extended period as he begins his recovery and rehabilitation.
