Comoros goalkeeper Yannick Pandor has been widely praised for his standout performance despite his side’s defeat to hosts Morocco in the opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Pandor, who is currently on loan at a second-division club in Belgium, rose to the occasion on Africa’s biggest football stage, delivering an assured display that included a crucial first-half penalty save. His composure and shot-stopping kept Comoros in contention for much of the contest against the tournament favourites.

Observers noted the significance of the moment for the young goalkeeper, who demonstrated maturity beyond his years in front of a packed stadium and intense home support for Morocco.
Despite the loss, Comoros were encouraged by their overall performance, particularly the resilience of their defence and the attacking threat posed by Rafiki Said. The team showed organisation, discipline and belief, suggesting they could still make an impact as the tournament progresses.
With Pandor providing confidence at the back and Said leading the line, Comoros are expected to take positives from the encounter as they prepare for their remaining group fixtures at AFCON 2025.
