Istanbul — Former Fenerbahçe attacking midfielder, Rıdvan Dilmen, has cautioned Mauro Icardi to accept that Victor Osimhen is now Galatasaray’s first-choice striker, insisting that the Nigerian forward deserves to lead the team’s attack.
Speaking on the Sports Digitale YouTube channel, Dilmen said Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk must prioritize tactical decisions over sentiment if the club is to achieve success, especially in the UEFA Champions League.
“Okan Buruk doesn’t want to upset Icardi either. But the Champions League doesn’t tolerate sentimentality,” Dilmen stated.
“A game with Icardi would be a different game; you wouldn’t have had the start you did with him in this match, and you wouldn’t have scored the third goal.
If emotionality overtakes logic in coaching, you have no chance of success. This team’s centre forward is Osimhen. Icardi will either accept it or give in.”
Dilmen’s comments come after both Osimhen and Icardi found the back of the net in Galatasaray’s 3-1 victory over Göztepe in the Turkish Super Lig at the weekend.
Osimhen, who joined the Turkish champions this season, has quickly established himself as a key player for Buruk’s side, impressing fans with his pace, power, and goal-scoring instinct.
