Rena Wakama, Head Coach, Nigeria’s Senior National Basketball women’s team D’Tigress, has joined the team in camp in Abuja as preparations continue for upcoming AfroBasket Championship coming up in Cote D’ Voire.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that in 2023, she made history as the first female head coach of any team that led Nigeria to their fourth consecutive FIBA AfroBasket Women title.
Under her leadership, D’Tigress also became the first African team, male or female, to reach the quarterfinals of basketball at the 2024 Paris Olympics, earning her FIBA’s Best Coach award.
NAN also reports that no fewer than 14 players from the D’Tigress have arrived at the Abuja camp as they prepare for the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket championship scheduled to take place in Abidjan, between July 26 and Aug. 3.
Additional players are also expected to join the team soon.
The current roaster includes, Solape Amusan, Olawuyi Adenike, Murja Musa, Amy Okonkwo, Nicole Enabosi, Victoria Macaulay, Vera Ojenuwa, Elizabeth Balogun, Abiodun Damilare.
Others are Blessing Ejiofor, Ifunaya Okoro, Abiodun Yusuf, Pallas Kunaiyi and star player and team leader Ezinne Kalu. (NAN)
