Manchester United’s problems continue to mount as key midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been ruled out for several weeks with an injury, further weakening Rúben Amorim’s squad. Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer are also sidelined, leaving the manager with limited options ahead of their crucial clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

With the squad depleted, Amorim will rely on experienced duo Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in midfield, while academy prospect Jack Moorhouse has been included in the traveling squad alongside Chido Obi-Martin, Sekou Kone, Harry Amass, and Elyh Harrison. Adding to the team’s woes, travel disruptions forced United to take a team bus to London instead of their usual rail journey.

Amorim Acknowledges Responsibility for United’s Financial Woes
Beyond injuries and on-field struggles, United is grappling with significant off-field challenges. Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is overseeing major restructuring at the club, including job cuts and potential ticket price increases, as United tries to offset reported losses of £300 million over the past three years.
Amorim admitted that the squad must take responsibility for the club’s financial difficulties, acknowledging that poor performances, failure to qualify for the Champions League, and past heavy spending have contributed to the crisis.
“People are losing their jobs. It’s really important for us in the first team, coaches, and players not to ignore it,” Amorim said. “We spend money, we are not winning, and revenues are not the same. We have to be careful with finances.”
Morale at the club is reportedly low, with ticket prices rising and concession discounts removed. Amorim emphasized that the best way to help is by improving results on the pitch.
“We have to change that. The first step is to win at Tottenham. That’s a small way to help these people and prevent further price hikes—we are responsible for that,” he concluded.
With injuries, financial turmoil, and growing unrest among fans and employees, United faces a defining period both on and off the pitch.
