Russia’s Friendly Match Lineup
Russia will also face Zambia in March and Belarus on June 10, making the Super Eagles game part of their international friendly schedule.
The RFU stated that it had “reached agreements” with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and other football bodies to arrange these matches.
Russia’s FIFA Ban and Football Activities
Russia has been banned from FIFA and UEFA competitions since 2022 due to its invasion of Ukraine. However, the country has continued playing non-FIFA-sanctioned friendlies, mainly against non-Western nations.
In 2023, FIFA partially lifted the ban for U-17 teams, allowing them to compete under the name ‘Football Union of Russia’—without the Russian flag, anthem, or national team kits.
NFF’s Silence on the Friendly
As of now, the NFF has not officially confirmed the match. If finalized, this will be the first-ever senior international match between Nigeria and Russia.
