Discussions between both clubs intensified on Monday’s transfer deadline day, leading to a breakthrough in negotiations. Initially, Tel had rejected a move to Spurs despite a £50 million agreement between the clubs. However, talks were revived over the weekend, and the 18-year-old forward traveled to London on Monday to complete his medical.
In addition to Tel’s signing, Tottenham have also secured a deal for young Liverpool center-back Luca Furnell-Gill. The 18-year-old will join Spurs’ academy setup alongside Manchester City’s Daniel Batty, another teenage midfielder who has been with City’s academy since the age of eight.
Both Furnell-Gill and Batty are not expected to feature in manager Ange Postecoglou’s first-team plans this season but will provide depth for Tottenham’s youth ranks.
The double signing aligns with Spurs’ recent strategy of bolstering their academy with promising young talent, ensuring a steady development pipeline for future first-team opportunities.
