Brazilian forward Neymar has had his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal terminated by mutual consent.
The 32-year-old joined Al-Hilal in August 2023 for €90m (£77.6m) but managed only seven appearances due to injuries. Neymar, still the world’s most expensive player following his €222m (£200m) move to PSG in 2017, played just two matches this season, with his last appearance as a substitute in November.
Al-Hilal’s Statement
“The club expresses its thanks and appreciation to Neymar for his contributions and wishes him success in his career,” Al-Hilal said.
Injury-Stricken Tenure
Neymar joined Al-Hilal on a two-year deal, earning a reported €150m (£129.2m) annually. However, he suffered a major setback in October 2023, rupturing his ACL during Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay. Despite returning to action a year later, a hamstring issue further limited his involvement.
Potential Return to Santos
Speculation is rife about Neymar returning to Santos, the club where he began his career and scored 136 goals in 225 games before moving to Barcelona in 2013.
Career Highlights
Neymar won two La Liga titles, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup with Barcelona.
At PSG, he claimed five Ligue 1 titles before moving to Saudi Arabia.
He became Brazil’s all-time leading male scorer with 78 goals, surpassing Pele, but has not played for his country since his knee injury in 2023.
