Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made a strong statement about Marcus Rashford, saying he would rather give a spot on the bench to his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach, Jorge Vital, than to a player who isn’t giving maximum effort.

Rashford, who hasn’t featured in United’s matchday squad for six weeks, was once again absent during United’s 1-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday. With the transfer window set to close on February 3, Rashford’s future at the club remains uncertain.

“It’s Always the Same Reason”
Amorim explained his decision:
“It’s always the same reason—the training and how I see a footballer should live. It’s about giving the maximum every day. If things don’t change, I won’t change. That applies to every player.”

Despite missing Rashford’s pace on the bench, Amorim reiterated:
“I would put Jorge Vital on the bench before a player who doesn’t give the maximum every day.”

Sources close to Rashford maintain that the 27-year-old has no personal issues with Amorim and is willing to play for the club again.

Transfer Rumors
Rashford’s hopes of a move to AC Milan were dashed following the club’s acquisition of Kyle Walker, as Milan can only sign one English player this month. A loan to Barcelona remains uncertain, pending the departure of players like Eric Garcia or Ansu Fati, neither of whom seem inclined to leave.

Pundits Weigh In
Former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given told BBC Match of the Day:
“The fans see it’s not good enough from the players. Amorim is just being honest—if you don’t train hard and dedicate yourself, you don’t deserve a place in the team.”

Ex-Aston Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger added:
“Amorim wants to set an example, but this could strain his relationship with Rashford. He’s under pressure, and if he’s harsh with players, his teams must deliver results.”

Rashford’s situation highlights the tension between Amorim’s expectations and the player’s future at Old Trafford.
