Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi has completed a move to Greek champions Olympiacos FC from Portuguese side Boavista.
The transfer was officially announced on Monday via a statement on Olympiacos’ website.
“The 25-year-old player joins from Portuguese club Boavista, where he made 77 appearances, scored five goals, and provided three assists,” the club stated.
Impressive 2023/24 Season
Onyemaechi has had a standout season, featuring in 18 matches for Boavista, contributing three goals and one assist. His performances caught the attention of Olympiacos, who reportedly paid €2.5 million to secure his services.
The Owerri-born defender signed a four-year deal with the 2024 Europa Conference League champions, beating competition from Benfica and Fenerbahçe for his signature.
Career Highlights
Onyemaechi joined Boavista in 2023 following stints at Feirense and a loan spell with Vila Real, both in Portugal. His strong performances quickly established him as a key player.
The Nigerian international debuted for the Super Eagles in a commanding 6-0 win over São Tomé and Príncipe in 2023. He also featured in the squad that finished as runners-up at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, serving as a reliable second-choice left-back behind Zaidu Sanusi.
Olympiacos’ Ambition
Onyemaechi’s signing reflects Olympiacos’ ambition to strengthen their squad as they push for domestic and continental success. The defender brings a mix of versatility, defensive solidity, and attacking threat to the Greek giants.
