The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn into Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The draw for the tournament’s group stage took place on Monday at the Mohamed V National Theatre in Casablanca.

Group Stage Format
The 24 participating nations have been divided into six groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group will automatically progress to the knockout stage, along with the four best third-placed teams.

Historical Rivalries Renewed
Nigeria is set to renew rivalries with Tunisia, facing the Carthage Eagles for the first time since their second-round defeat to them at AFCON 2022 in Cameroon.

The Super Eagles also have history with Uganda, whom they last encountered in the semi-finals of the 1978 AFCON. Nigeria lost that match 2-1.

Meanwhile, Tanzania holds a special place in Nigerian football history, as they were the first team the Super Eagles defeated during their triumphant campaign at AFCON 1980. Nigeria won 3-1 in the opening match of that tournament.

Tournament Schedule
The 35th edition of AFCON is scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

The Super Eagles will be aiming to go one better than their performance in the previous edition, where they finished as runners-up in Côte d’Ivoire.
