Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League woes continued on Saturday as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at home against Leicester City, a team that had lost its previous seven league matches.
Despite glimmers of hope in cup competitions and key players returning from injury, the gloom surrounding Ange Postecoglou’s side in the league deepened further.
The loss at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was met with strong boos from the home crowd, choruses of protest songs aimed at chairman Daniel Levy, and a banner demanding change as fans left the stadium.
Tottenham’s Struggles Persist
Spurs’ struggles in the Premier League have been stark. They have secured just five points from their last 11 league games and haven’t won a home match since their November 3 victory over Aston Villa. In the time since, they have suffered heavy defeats, including leaking six goals against Liverpool and a shock loss to Ipswich Town.
Leicester, arriving in North London on the back of seven consecutive defeats, seemed primed to extend their poor run. However, they left victorious, fighting back from a goal down to claim their first Premier League win since early December.
A Promising Start Turned Sour
Tottenham took the lead in the first half when Richarlison scored his second Premier League goal in two games, heading in Pedro Porro’s cross after drifting behind Wout Faes and holding off James Justin.
But the lead proved short-lived as Leicester roared back early in the second half. Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss scored within five minutes to turn the game on its head. Despite Tottenham’s efforts to respond, Leicester’s resolute defense and some time-wasting tactics saw them hold on for the win.
Fans Demand Change
The defeat highlighted Spurs’ low energy levels, depleted confidence, and reliance on young players, who are giving their all but struggling to deliver points. Postecoglou’s side remains alive in all cup competitions, well-placed in Europe, and leading in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool. However, their league form paints a grim picture.
By the final whistle, frustration among fans boiled over, with chants and banners signaling growing discontent. This latest setback further underscores the urgency for Spurs to find consistency in the Premier League and restore faith among their supporters.
