Milan, Italy – Manchester City captain Kyle Walker is set to join Italian giants AC Milan on loan for the remainder of the season. The agreement includes an option for AC Milan to make the transfer permanent at the end of the loan period.
Walker, a key figure in City’s recent dominance, will now travel to Italy to undergo a medical before officially joining the Rossoneri.
A Change of Scenery
Following City’s match against West Ham on January 4th, Walker informed manager Pep Guardiola of his desire to explore potential moves abroad. While initially linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, the experienced full-back reportedly favored a move to Italy.
Competition for Rashford
AC Milan had also been heavily linked with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. However, Italian registration rules limit the number of players they can sign from the UK during the current transfer window, ultimately leading to their pursuit of Walker.
A Successful City Career
Walker has enjoyed a highly successful career at Manchester City since his £50 million move from Tottenham in 2017. He has been an integral part of all six Premier League titles won by the club under Pep Guardiola and was named City’s joint-captain in 2023.
City’s Busy Transfer Window
This move comes after a busy January transfer window for Manchester City. The club has already signed Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial fee of £59 million, Brazilian defender Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for £30 million, and Uzbek midfielder Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens for £33.6 million.
Walker’s Departure Marks the End of an Era
Walker’s potential departure from Manchester City would mark the end of an era for the club. He has been a vital component of their success in recent years, providing both defensive solidity and attacking prowess.
