Borussia Dortmund have parted ways with manager Nuri Sahin following their 2-1 Champions League defeat to Bologna on Tuesday. The decision comes as the club continues to struggle both domestically and in Europe.
Currently sitting in 13th place in their Champions League group, Dortmund’s campaign has fallen far below expectations, especially after reaching last season’s final. In the Bundesliga, they are 10th in the table, a staggering 20 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.
Sahin, who was appointed head coach last summer after Edin Terzic’s departure, expressed regret over the team’s performance.
“Unfortunately, we have not managed to live up to Borussia Dortmund’s sporting ambitions this season,” Sahin said in a statement confirming his exit. “I wish this special club all the best.”
The club has yet to announce a replacement, but former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been strongly linked to the role. The Dutch tactician, who departed the Red Devils in October, has reportedly visited Dortmund in recent weeks, fueling speculation about his potential appointment.
Dortmund fans will be eager to see how the club responds to this managerial change as they aim to salvage their season in both domestic and European competitions.
