The 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) silver-medalists, Nigeria, have been drawn in Group D alongside Senegal, Sudan, and the Republic of Congo for the 8th edition of the tournament.

The championship, originally scheduled for 2024, has been postponed to August 2025 but will still be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

The official draw ceremony was held on Wednesday evening at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, unveiling a competitive lineup across the four groups.

Hosts and Group Leaders
Co-hosts Kenya will lead Group A, which features defending champions Morocco, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia. The opening match of the tournament will pit Kenya against Morocco in what promises to be an exciting encounter.

Tanzania, another co-host nation, will lead Group B, competing against Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic. The Central African Republic notably secured its place after eliminating Cameroon in the qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Uganda, the third host, will head Group C, where it will face Niger Republic, Guinea, and two wildcard teams to be determined by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Nigeria’s Prospects
Nigeria’s inclusion in Group D sets the stage for a highly competitive group stage. With additional preparation time due to the tournament’s postponement, the Super Eagles’ home-based team will aim to replicate their 2018 success and push for the title.
