The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed a fine of ₦3 million on Nasarawa United for breaching league rules during their matchday 18 fixture against Rivers United on December 22, 2024.
Breakdown of Sanctions
Financial Penalties: Nasarawa United is fined ₦1 million each for the following offenses:
Pitch encroachment.
Failure to ensure proper conduct of team members and supporters.
Failure to provide adequate and effective security.
Points Deduction: The club will lose three points and three goals from their accrued tally for the assault on centre referee Musibaudeen Ibrahim after the game.
The sanctions come after the club’s supporters reportedly assaulted the match referee. The NPFL has directed the club to identify and prosecute the individuals responsible for the assault and submit progress reports to the league management within seven days.
Nasarawa United has 48 hours to appeal the sanctions, which include the fines, points deduction, and requirement for accountability.
The league reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism and safety standards, emphasizing that incidents of violence and misconduct will not be tolerated.
This disciplinary action sends a strong message to clubs about ensuring security and proper behavior during matches, safeguarding the integrity of Nigerian football.
