Liverpool FC announced on Monday that Brazilian goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga has completed a permanent transfer from Anfield to his former club, Fluminense.

The club confirmed the development in an official statement, wishing the 21-year-old the best in his future endeavors.

Pitaluga, who joined Liverpool over four years ago, was behind Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher in Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s pecking order for goalkeepers. During his time at the club, he was named in the senior matchday squad on seven occasions and gained experience through loan spells at Macclesfield FC, St Patrick’s Athletic, and Livingston.

“Everyone at LFC wishes Marcelo the best of luck for the future,” the club said in its statement.

The transfer comes less than 24 hours after Liverpool played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday. Slot’s team remains at the top of the Premier League table with 46 points from 19 matches, ahead of Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

As the January transfer window continues, it remains to be seen whether Slot will make additional moves to strengthen his squad for the remainder of the season.
